UCD BESTOWS HONORARY DEGREE

University College Dublin is pleased to announce that it will confer the honorary degree of Doctor of Music on mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli in November of this year. The timing will coincide with Ms Bartoli’s visit to Dublin to perform at the National Concert Hall on November 30^th.

 

 

In announcing the move, UCD President, Dr Hugh Brady expressed his delight, stating that this award recognises Ms Bartoli’s contribution to both musical performance and scholarly research. The themes of high quality research and the development of the fruits of that research for new and diverse audiences are ones with which UCD finds particular resonance.

 

Founded in 1854, UCD is the largest university in Ireland. Previous recipients of honorary degrees from UCD include pianist Alfred Brendel, sculptor Imogen Stuart, humanitarian Bob Geldof, scientist Robert Gallo and playwright Harold Pinter.
